Our purpose is to advance the public’s appreciation of the arts by producing public art exhibitions, presentations, and art(s) events, and by providing a forum for qualified artists to exhibit, present, or perform their artistic works through participation in such events.

We intend to advance education by providing classes related to art history and artistic process to the public and to do all such things as are incidental or ancillary to the attainment of the above purposes.

The Cowichan Public Art Gallery Society’s intention is to be a public art institution committed to developing connections between art and our communities. Its exhibits are intended to provoke intellectual inquiry, capture visitors’ imaginations, and encourage debate and discussion. We are also committed to fostering dialogue between
artists, both local and international.

Our vision is to do this by mounting a broad and dynamic range of exhibitions, primarily modern and occasionally historical, based on universal issues that affect our lives, recognizing, respecting and engaging with the different perspectives of our audience

We will aim for programs that reflect the vast variety of contemporary art practice and mediums by a range of artists, both established and emerging. We will balance thematic group shows with solo exhibitions. We also will build and periodically exhibit works from a permanent collection.

The Gallery intends to ensure that the exhibitions have a high degree of curatorial integrity, guaranteeing excellence and contributing to the cultural climate of the region. The exhibition program will build and maintain the Gallery’s reputation as a vital cultural institution within the overall network of Canadian public art galleries.
